Steve's story
One van and a dream
Steve Withers was born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1949 and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1967. An Army veteran of Vietnam, he met Peggy Winegardner while stationed in San Antonio, and they married in 1970.
His long-time dream of owning a business came true in 1979, when he opened Steve's Heating & Cooling with one van, a few tools, and himself. His vision: exceptional service at a fair price — and above all, complete honesty with customers.
Steve loved cruising his vintage '67 Camaro and '63 Ford Galaxie 500 convertibles to area car shows and firing up the grill for friends on football Sundays. He passed away in 2008 and was buried with military honors. The company still lives by the principles he started it with.
Today
The team carrying it forward
Owner Shaun Kilburn took over Steve's after a decade in the heating and cooling industry, continuing its tradition of quality service from a friendly, experienced team. Office Manager Wendy Nin keeps everything running on time — and she's bilingual.
